Addressing recent incidents in Auckland: Our commitment to safety and support for the visually impaired
We are deeply concerned to learn about recent incidents in Auckland where pedestrians have experienced slipping on yellow polyurethane tactiles. First and foremost, our thoughts go out to the individuals who have been affected, and we wish them a swift recovery.
We want to clarify that the yellow polyurethane tactiles implicated in these incidents are not our products.
Our commitment to safety and quality drives us to ensure that the tactile indicators we provide meet the highest standards. Our products, which are deployed extensively nationwide, adhere to a P5 slip test rating. This rating exceeds the Auckland Transport code of practice standards, as well as all relevant NZTA and AS/NZS standards prescribed by councils across the country.
Understanding the significance of tactile indicators in aiding the visually impaired, we are taking proactive measures to address this situation and provide necessary support.
Currently, we are collaborating closely with industry experts to educate proper installation methods and the different tactile applications for different environments. This initiative underscores our dedication to ensuring that visually impaired individuals can navigate their surroundings with confidence and ease.
In partnership with Auckland Transport, we are actively working to implement immediate remedies for areas that have been identified as potentially hazardous. Our goal is to swiftly rectify any dangerous situations and prevent further incidents.
Furthermore, we want to emphasize that our commitment to our customers extends beyond the initial installation. Our installations come with a standard 5-year warranty, and we are diligently exploring avenues to enhance this service. As part of our continuous improvement efforts, we are considering the introduction of a follow-up maintenance option. This approach will help ensure that the tactile indicators remain in optimal condition, thus sustaining their effectiveness and safety over time.
It's unfortunate these incidents have occurred in Auckland. We remain steadfast in our commitment to the safety and well-being of pedestrians, particularly those who are visually impaired. Our aim is to continue to work collaboratively with all stakeholders to ensure that incidents of this nature are minimized, and that the public can have confidence in our tactile installations for safe and independent navigation.
